Erik Brown, a Canadian technical diver remembered for his role in the 2018 Tham Luang cave rescue in Thailand, has died at the age of 44.
News of Brown’s death was shared by friends and family on September 26, 2026, prompting tributes from people across the international diving and rescue community.
Born and raised in Langley, British Columbia, Brown built a career around technical diving and became known among fellow divers for his experience, composure, and willingness to take on demanding underwater work.

Brown became part of the international rescue effort in 2018 after 12 members of the Wild Boars youth football team and their coach became trapped inside Thailand’s flooded Tham Luang Nang Non cave complex.
As one of the technical divers involved in the operation, Brown helped move air cylinders and other essential equipment through submerged sections of the cave. He also assisted with installing and maintaining guide lines that helped rescuers navigate the difficult passages.
Brown later recalled spending about 63 hours inside the cave over nine days and seven missions during the rescue effort.
