A Palm Coast family and community are grieving the deaths of Dawn Estrella, 47, and Rakim-Shakur Brooks, 55, who were fatally shot inside their home on Weyanoke Lane in Palm Coast, Florida, on Wednesday night, September 30, 2026.
The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were dispatched at about 10:18 p.m. after several 911 calls reported a shooting at the residence.
What Happened in Palm Coast
When deputies arrived, they found Brooks dead inside the garage. Authorities described his fatal injury as an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Dawn was found in a bedroom with multiple gunshot wounds. Deputies and responding emergency personnel began life-saving measures, but she was pronounced dead at approximately 10:34 p.m.
The Palm Coast Fire Department and Flagler County Fire Rescue also responded to the residence.
According to the initial investigation described by the sheriff’s office, Brooks allegedly shot Dawn following an argument before fatally shooting himself. Two other people who were inside the home were found unharmed.
Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing, including an examination of the firearm involved.

Dawn and Brooks had been married since March 2024. The couple had reportedly been in a relationship for approximately nine years.
