Miss Synquavia Keyona Staples, affectionately known as “Keke,” of Roanoke, Alabama, has died at the age of 22.

According to her official obituary, Synquavia passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2026. Her death has left family members, friends and others who knew her mourning the loss of a young woman whose life included education, community involvement and plans for a career in nursing.

Synquavia was a graduate of Handley High School, where she was active in school life. She was a cheerleader and was selected as the school’s 2022 homecoming queen. She was also voted prom queen that year.

After high school, Synquavia pursued nursing at Jacksonville State University. In August 2026, she participated in the university’s School of Nursing GOLD-AACN White Coat Ceremony, marking an important step toward her future career in healthcare.

Synquavia Staples Cause of Death

Synquavia Staples died in Huntsville, Alabama, on September 27, 2026, alongside Jordan Darnell West, 21.

According to reporting on the investigation, Huntsville police classified the deaths as a murder-suicide and said investigators found no evidence that anyone outside the two people was involved.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 3 p.m. CST at First Baptist Church in Roanoke, Alabama. Rev. Gilbert Staples will officiate.

Burial will follow the funeral service at Skyview Memorial Gardens in Five Points, Alabama.
