Three people have died and a woman was seriously injured following a shooting in Lentegeur, Mitchells Plain, late Wednesday night.
The incident happened on Blombos Street, where police say several armed suspects opened fire before fleeing the area. Two of the victims were found dead at the scene, while another man who managed to escape the initial shooting was later discovered dead on Eisleben Road.
A fourth victim, a woman, survived the attack but suffered serious injuries and was taken for medical treatment.
Police Investigate Deadly Mitchells Plain Attack
According to police, four armed men were allegedly involved in the shooting. The suspects were reportedly travelling in a white Nissan Almera when they opened fire on the victims.
After the attack, the suspects fled from the area before police could apprehend them.
Investigators from the Anti-Gang Unit have taken over the case and are working to establish exactly what led to the shooting and identify those responsible.
Third Victim Found on Eisleben Road
The shooting scene on Blombos Street was not the only location examined by investigators.
Police were later alerted to another victim who had fled from the initial attack. The man was subsequently found dead on Eisleben Road.
The discovery added another location to the investigation as detectives worked to reconstruct the events that unfolded before and after the shooting.
CCTV and Witnesses Sought
Investigators are appealing for information from members of the public who may have witnessed the incident or noticed the suspects’ vehicle before or after the shooting.
CCTV footage from the surrounding area is also expected to assist detectives as they work to establish the movements of the suspects.
Authorities have not yet announced any arrests in connection with the attack.
Possible Gang-Related Motive Being Investigated
Police are examining the possibility that the shooting may have been gang-related.
However, the motive has not been conclusively established, and investigators are continuing to gather evidence before determining what prompted the attack.
Western Cape Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Sizakhele Dyantyi has called for swift action to identify and arrest those responsible for the deaths.
Community Left Grieving
The deaths have left the Mitchells Plain community dealing with another violent incident as investigators continue their search for answers.
Three families are now mourning the loss of their loved ones, while the surviving woman continues to recover from serious injuries.
The investigation remains active, and further information may be released as detectives establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting and work toward identifying the suspects.
